Opening Reception - Floating & Winter Dip by Kicki Lundgren - On Screen

This autumn, The Node introduces On Screen – a visual gallery space where innovative contemporary artists showcase their work on The Node’s 16-square-metre LED screen, visible to tens of thousands of people passing through Sergelgången.

The idea behind On Screen is to make visual art accessible to a wider audience and spark interest in contemporary video art and photographic slideshows. A text displayed in The Node’s window introduces the artwork and the artist to those who stop to take a closer look.

Located at Plattan, directly beneath the fountain at Sergels torg, The Node is a music house featuring studios, a bar and restaurant, and two stages. One of the stages is equipped with a 16-square-metre LED screen and large windows facing Sergelgången, one of Sweden’s busiest pedestrian thoroughfares, with approximately 70,000 people passing through every day.

Throughout the autumn, The Node will present works by four prominent artists, bringing contemporary art to both busy Stockholmers and visitors to the capital.

“Everyone talks about the importance of making culture accessible to the public,” says Emilia Molin, CEO of The Node. “We wanted to make the most of our location and offer people an art experience on the go. We believe that feels particularly important in a turbulent and somewhat uncertain time.”

During the spring, The Node’s curator, Mia Bengtsson Plynning, launched an Open Call and selected four artists whose work will be exhibited on The Node’s screen throughout the autumn.

The second artist in the series is Kicki Lundgren, a multi-award-winning and internationally recognised photographer, educated at Nordens Fotoskola in Stockholm.

FLOATING grew out of a fascination with the spontaneity and unpredictability of water. The series portrays people swimming in the Mediterranean, their bodies expressing a sense of freedom from society’s ideals of age and beauty.

WINTER DIP portrays people confronting their fears through winter swimming in Sweden. The bodies, the dark water and the encounter with the cold convey vulnerability and courage, as well as a powerful sense of survival.

Music: IamDaylight

Where: The Node, beneath the fountain at Sergels torg, Stockholm

When: 22 September–20 October. The works will be shown daily on the screen and can be viewed both from inside The Node and through the large glass windows facing Sergelgången.

Four artists will exhibit as part of On Screen before the end of the year.
